Organize Your Home with William Morris’ Philosophy
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”
– William Morris
William Morris was an English textile designer, poet, artist, writer, and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. He rose to prominence when there was a mass of mass-manufactured goods. He believed there was a connection between quality of life and what we surround ourselves with in our homes. Our quality of life is affected by what we surround ourselves with in our homes.
We interpret this quote as being about having intentionality in your space. This means setting up your home by design instead of default.
Remember – being organized doesn’t mean your home is always clean or neat! Just that when you do want to clean up or pick up, you can do so easily because everything has a clear place to go and fits comfortably within there.
